Starting from the beginning though, as even the designers of the real Dreamcast would have done, David sketched possible ideas of what he wanted the console to look like, which was followed by a clay mold, then a plaster cast of it. The next step involved taking a 14″ x 18″ sheet of plastic, and heating it up. Once that’s softened up, it sits on top of the plaster cast while a home made vacuum chamber (instructions on how to build one can be found here) sucks all the air out from around it, making it fall into the shape of the cast… Link.
The goal of the motion-based iPod remote control was to design and build a remote control for the iPod that responds to a user’s motion. An accelerometer is used to detect the motion of a user. A microprocessor then interprets these movements and sends the appropriate commands to the iPod via its remote control port. [via] Link.
Off-the-shelf technology used in tracking fingers in high resolution for human interfaces…a simple active tracking system using a laser diode (visible or invisible light), steering mirrors, and a single non-imaging photodetector, which is capable of acquiring three dimensional coordinates in real time without the need of any image processing at all. Chris writes “Well, we have seen this before – or have we? This project is not unique in terms of mounting a viewing window on top of the hard drive, but what makes this project stand out is the detail of it and the full description on how you should actually do it. And it comes with thirteen highres pictures. Not to speak of the end result. Wow!!! Very nice end result! And oh, did I mention that this hard drive is fully functional after the surgery?” Link.
