Game Cartridge Soap
It’s the ultimate retro gaming meets personal hygiene mashup. These bars of soap shaped like classic game cartridges from Indiana maker Lesly Karpiuk will certainly increase the nostalgia points of your domicile’s lavatory.

I’ve been playing around with the for Arduino from the Maker Shed, and I realized that I needed a basic understanding of how the seven segment display works, in order to do anything interesting with it. When addressing the display from the sample Arduino sketch, I was pulling pre-formed characters from an array of hex values.
By George Hart for the Museum of Mathematics Cellular automata are mathematical systems that can generate surprisingly complex patterns from very simple rules. Camilla Fox worked out a way to knit cellular automata patterns by using two colors of yarn. One of the two colors is brought to the front for each stitch according to […]
This clever clock kit from EMSL has an analog-style face, but no hands. Instead, kinda like a sundial, it has a “gnomon” that sticks up in the middle. Three rings of inward-pointing LEDs are positioned around the rim, each a different color and each at a different angle relative to the face. The blue ring is at the shallowest angle, and thus casts the longest shadow representing the “seconds” hand. The red ring is at the steepest angle and casts the shortest shadow to make the “hours” hand. The green ring, in the middle, is minutes. Check the video above, courtesy YouTube user amandachou, to see it in action.
The “Bulbdial” clock is available as a kit with four different case options, but the clear/black variety shown above is definitely my favorite because it shows off the cool retro-futurist logo on the circuit board. Here’s a time-lapse video of YouTuber jcorsaro building one from a kit.
Sigh. How sweet is that tiny heart? The little dainty petal came from a true geranium (not to be confused with pelargonium, a much larger popular flower). In my yard, these itsy bitsy flowers grow freely in with the grass, clover and forget-me-nots. Because they “go to seed” with great success, many gardeners consider them a […]
If vintage ephemera makes you as giddy as it makes me, you might want to carve out the next few hours to search through the massive collection from Agence Eureka. Don’t say I didn’t warn you … [via W5RAN]
A few weeks ago, I picked up a LC-Style Guitar kit from the Maker Shed. I have always wanted this style of guitar, and the fact that it’s a kit made me want it even more. The fist step to assembling the guitar is to finish all the wood components, and that’s where I’m asking […]
