A simple project to add a platform to Ikea speaker stands, so they can actually be used with decent speakers. I’m starting to see a trend with Ikea mods, folks are buying them as cheap parts for other projects. Thanks fluffy! Link.
MAKE will be at OSCON for the rest of the week. OSCON is the annual open source convention, looks like over 2,000 people are here. MAKE will be presenting at the O’Reilly booth throughout the week (Linux devices, PSP hacking…) and doing a presentation on Friday (DIY culture stuff). MAKE pals -from the shadows- have a new episode out. “Box 5.0: Beer! Science. Art. Technology”. This episode kicks it off with the science of beer at the Anchor Brewing Company, then moves on to “Home Brewing 101”, and tops it off with an exclusive look at the KegBot! Link.
Is there anything the TI’s can’t do?…it’s not one of those slow and unplayable basic games. This is a real-time 3d-raycaster based on the game by id. Also includes an on-calc mapeditor. Link.
I really like this idea…I hate wrapping gifts. It’s the most unoriginal part of gift-giving. Although my gifts are hardly ever spectacular, my wrapping will always outshine them. I recommend using this wrapping method for giving out crowbars at Christmas. The extra irony makes the project that much sweeter. It’s really not your problem how to open the crate once the gift has been given, so don’t let anyone sucker you into opening it for them. Link.
I really like Firefox, mostly because you can make your own browser with all the GreaseMonkey stuff…and now check this- The Mozilla Foundation, developer of the Firefox Web browser, plans to announce Wednesday that it has created a for-profit subsidiary to pursue wider potential for the software. Awesome. WiGLE is an online database of Wireless Access Points (802.11A/B/G) that is contributed to by folks using Netstumbler, Kismet and other war driving tools. WiGLE has a web interface of its own as well as Java desktop client called JiGLE. Link.
