I really like Firefox, mostly because you can make your own browser with all the GreaseMonkey stuff…and now check this- The Mozilla Foundation, developer of the Firefox Web browser, plans to announce Wednesday that it has created a for-profit subsidiary to pursue wider potential for the software. Awesome. WiGLE is an online database of Wireless Access Points (802.11A/B/G) that is contributed to by folks using Netstumbler, Kismet and other war driving tools. WiGLE has a web interface of its own as well as Java desktop client called JiGLE. Link.

MAKE pal Russell Beattie has an extremely detailed hands-on review of the new Apple Mighty Mouse with loads of pictures and screenshots. There’s no other moving parts besides the main clicker. I’m not sure what sort of magic Apple put into this thing, but it detects left, right and middle clicking accurately, even though there’s no other buttons. It’s pretty wild. What’s amusing is that I used a one-button mouse for a while when I first got my Mini, and I kept “right-clicking” using that mouse and obviously nothing happened… Link.
iTunes just updated, so now you can get 5 new interviews from our DEFCON coverage. There’s an interview with Jason Scott, of Textfiles.com and who is also the director of the amazing new film THE BBS DOCUMENTARY. There’s an interview with Flexilis, a world record attempt on reading RFID tags from a distance. (The end result was a bit over 69 feet on top of the roof of DEFCON.) There’s an interview with one of the MAKERs of the “Bloodhound” gun, a low cost “gun” made from a Pocket PC and some off the shelf parts that can find rouge Wireless access points. There’s also an interview with one of the MAKERs who created the KegBot! It’s a linux-based beer dispensing / tracking system. Wow, this sounds like a MAKE article! Our thoughts are with the Discovery crew! Once there, he’ll tug out the ceramic-fabric filler with his gloved hands. If that doesn’t work, he’ll use a makeshift hacksaw to cut away the material, which is sticking out about an inch from two spots near Discovery’s nose. The saw was improvised out of a blade, plastic ties, duct tape, Velcro and other items aboard the space station. [via] Link.
I’ve been spending a lot of time in elevators lately, need to see if this really works- The designers of some elevators include a hidden feature that is very handy if you’re in a hurry or it’s a busy time in the building (like check-out time in a hotel). While some elevators require a key, others can be put into “Express” mode by pressing the “Door Close” and “Floor” buttons at the same time. This sweeps the car to the floor of your choice and avoids stops at any other floor. [via] Link.
