Dublin Mini Maker Faire This Weekend!

Dublin Mini Maker Faire This Weekend!

Dublin, Ireland’s second Mini Maker Faire is set for Saturday, July 27. Last year’s event drew 5,500 attendees and 35 maker exhibits. This year’s free event promises to be even bigger with more makers. In particular, there’s been a jump in the number of fabrication makers who will showing off everything from homemade CNC machines to 3D scanning booths.

DiResta: Thinker Lamp

In each episode of DiResta, artist and master builder Jimmy DiResta (Dirty Money, Hammered, Against the Grain, Trash for Cash) lets us into his workshop, to look over his shoulder while he builds whatever strikes his fancy. On this episode of DiResta, Jimmy whips up a mold for a Rodin “Thinker” statue he picked up to make a lamp. Bright idea!

Making Hundreds of Unique Mini Maker Faire Posters With Processing

Making Hundreds of Unique Mini Maker Faire Posters With Processing

We needed a poster for the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire this year, so I decided to use a Processing sketch to do the work for me. By using a generative program I could make each poster unique, within the design constraints of the event. The key is to use Processing’s PDF library to record a printable version of everything you’re drawing on the screen. When you’re done, you just bring the PDF to your local copy shop or fine art large format printer.
