Make your own wearable LED display

Make your own wearable LED display

Supplies Chris writes “In a 7 page article Leah Buechley will show you from a-z how she put together a wearable led display perfect for club hopping! (Or maybe NOT!) The purpose of the whole display is to show off the “Game of life” which is a mathematical simulation of life. The project contains a lot of good close ups on her work in progress, and even a short movie where you can see the simulation running.” Link.

HOW TO make a medium format pinhole LEGO camera

HOW TO make a medium format pinhole LEGO camera

Pinhole Lego Camera Found Photography has a great step by step on making a pinhole LEGO camera – “After making the Lego conversion of my old Polaroid 95a, I decided to tackle another Lego challenge: a medium format Pinhole Lego Camera. I had several goals for the lego camera: 1. First, I wanted to make sure that the film advance knob only turned one direction. 2. Secondly, I wanted to have a film counter in addition to the red window. 3. And last but not least, it would be nice to have some sort of viewfinder.” [via] Link.

Embroidery is now one of the coolest crafts around thanks to Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching. Our friend Olivia, just started her very first embroidery project with Sublime Stitching’s easy to use iron-on pattern, Atomique. The result? A cute embroidered robot for a baby quilt. Hmm…seems to be a robot + crafting trend a brewin’!. We love the color combinations and textures she produced through embroidery and how well it complements the circle patterned fabric. Great job Olivia! Link

Lego Yarn Winder

Lego Yarn Winder

Legoyarnwinder
All knitters know how painstaking a task winding yarn is on your poor wrists. There’s also a lot dexterity you need to keep the yarn from tangling into a big mess. (This unfortunate mess has happened to me many times.) Craftster.org’s multitude of project forums saves the day with a DIY Lego Yarn Winder. Powered by two motors and an RCX unit, this automatic yarn winder is just the excuse we need to go out and buy a new box of Legos. Thanks Leah! Link

News from the Future: Flash drives, the new PC?

Flash Right now, you can use an iPod nano to boot in to Linux – and more is on the way… Students at Eastside Preparatory School in Kirkland, Wash., are getting class materials in a new way this year: on a tiny flash-memory drive that plugs into a computer’s USB port. Small enough to wear on a necklace, this “digital backpack” can hold textbooks, novels, plays, study aids, the dictionary, graphing-calculator software — almost anything, really. [via] Link.

Etsy – buy and sell all things handmade

Etsy – buy and sell all things handmade

View Featured Images We’ve posted about Etsy before, but I wanted to throw another link their way as the site has changed a little since I last visited (lots of new ways to use the site). Etsy is a marketplace for handmade goods, from the creators of GetCrafty. Kinda eBay like, but prices are fixed (no auctions) and goods must be handmade. Insanely cool ways of browsing/finding the items up for sale, like shopping by color or time. Thanks Stewart!
