Today is AS220′s annual Foo Fest, and in addition to the AS220 Labs Fab Lab, as well as many artists and musicians you’ll see, the Rhode Island Mini Maker Faire has a table set up where you can get information about the Faire, and have your picture, er, point cloud taken with a Kinect connected to a Mac running Kyle McDonald’s KinectToStl. RI Mini Maker Faire will be here until 5:30, so come down soon!

The makers and hackers in the labs will be showcasing their nerdiness at this year’s Fest by showing off the Lab’s latest and greatest machine – a CNC milling machine made by the students of AS220 Labs’ Fab Academy with assistance from the noble makers of MIT. It’s like a small robot that can fabricate circuit boards…to make yet more robots!

Young people making handcrafted holiday items at Providence Fab Lab

This holiday season, Kafumba and about 30 other youth are taking a product design class at AS220 Labs, taught by AS220 Labs staff and a designer from Providence-based medical device product development firm Ximedica. The young people have been making and selling handcrafted merchandise in AS220’s Fab Lab – a suite of personal fabrication equipment and software created at MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms that includes a laser cutter, milling machine and vinyl cutter.
