Eric Hagan of ITP demonstrates “Cycle”, a stationary bike that’s mechanically connected to giant wheel with scenery sculpted upon it’s circumference.
This colorful bike rack made from old bike frames was spotted in New York City by a BikeHacks reader. According to him, they were made by a local metal fabricator in Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. What an excellent way to put scrap frames to good use!
John Guy’s Rocking Horse Bike has a single horn and is inspired by Charlie the Unicorn. A galloping motion is created by the assymetrical mounting of the wheels, which John demonstrated at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.
The cycling madmen of Whiskeydrunk Cycles, part of Fun Bike Unicorn Club, set up their Whiskey Drome at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011. In the vide above, Joshua Thwaites and Joey Caster tell us about the inspiration for this barrel-shaped arena while cycling daredevils perform dangerously fun stunts along the perimeter of the drome.
Paul Freedman throws conscious hip hop concerts by turning alternative transportation into alternative energy. Rock the Bike brings funky beats and sound gear to any venue, then sets up stationary bikes that are converted into electricity generators. Audience members take turns pedaling to generate all the amplification needed for the entire show at Maker Faire Bay Area 2011.
The day before Maker Faire Bay Area opened, we ran into Kurt and Bobbi Pires putting the finishing touches on a unique quadricycle in the South Lot of the fairgrounds. Dubbed Opabinia Regalis, the vehicle is named after an extinct Precambrian creature and has now been reborn as an angry, fire-spewing art bike.
