Sure, the world’s full of unusual clocks, both analog and digital, but this unusual design from Instructables user duckcrazy caught my eye for the many clever ways in which it makes the most of some common materials. The case is made from carefully-chosen 2-liter soda bottles, and the clock itself from a pair of CDs, a couple of print-and-fold paper cylinders, and an inexpensive analog clock movement. It’s an entry in Instructables currently-ongoing Clocks Challenge.
Curbly kills it at the mid-century game, and I love their take on an atomic clock with this asterisk design.
Mid-century modern is such a gorgeous era and has been permeating the design scene. A couple years ago I made a Starburst Mirror in an episode of Decor It Yourself, and since then have seen countless takes on the starburst mirror. In this CRAFT video I follow up with another version of the piece, and make my own atomic age clock to add to the retro feel of my kitchen.
This charming Knock Clock was made by three Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design students for a 48-hour design project. When you knock on the top of this minimalistic wooden box, it knocks back the time of day (to the nearest quarter hour). It even has a basic alarm function, which—naturally—is set by knocking as well. [via Adafruit]
