Pretty significant news – TiVo on your iPod – “TiVo Inc. is expanding its video recording service so users will be able to transfer recorded TV shows onto Apple Computer’s iPods, according to an Associated Press report. By adding support for the MPEG-4 video format, TiVo hopes to capitalize on the immense popularity of Apple iPods.” [via] Link.
A fun instructable from talbotron22 “Here I show how you can very simply modify a megaphone to accept 1/8” line input from an iPod, and mount the megaphone on top of a motorcycle helmet. The resulting “Mega Helmet” delivers the maximal aural stupidity allowed by law…Go play softball wearing the helmet. It is very good for antagonizing the pitcher, and trash-talking in general. The helmet allows both for amplification of your voice, and playback of mp3s from the iPod.” Link.
Great news, not only does the nano play DOOM, but thanks to the iPod Linux project (we use it on our iPods here at MAKE) the nano can now play video. It’s not as slick as the new iPod video, but it’s another step in unlocking the potential of older models of iPods out there. [via] Link.
We love iPod firmware mods, and this is one of the best ones yet – using iPodWizard (PC) you can add little icons to all the menu items on most iPods. How to and files included to make your own. Thanks Lubbi! Link.
Here’s a great (and simple) instructable on protecting the LCD on any type of device that needs it – like an iPod, digital camera, etc. Using clear tape as a cheap and disposable screen protector, you can save some coin and your screen. Link.
Dale writes “This is an enclosure which holds and powers an Airport Express and a set of attached speakers to wirelessly stream music from iTunes. It also incorporates a Palm T|X which acts as an LCD wirelessly remote for iTunes using the Salling Clicker remote control software. The setup provides a nice set of compact wireless speakers for any spot with AC power that’s in Wi-Fi range of your home network.”Link.
Logan writes “I was tired of waiting for the commercial manufacturers to ship their covers for the new iPod. So, I bid on an eBay auction for some remaindered clear static cling vinyl from Earl Mich Company and made my own cover. Total cost: $16. Total playtime: 3 hours” Link.
