Last weekend in Cambridge, our hale and hearty makers defied the weather gods to celebrate fabulous projects and the experiences of creating.

Come meet some great makers from the Boston area and their projects at the Cambridge Mini Maker Faire this Saturday afternoon. We’re part of the Cambridge Science Festival’s fun filled Science Carnival, being held from noon to 4pm on Saturday May 7, on the grounds of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School The Mini Maker Faire will be on the tennis courts, next to the Cambridge Public Library.
Sung Kim’s father gave him his first skil saw when he was just seven years old. His mother provided him with modeling clay as a safer alternative not long after that. Sung’s grandfather-in-law, ship builder Dean Stevens, left him a coveted collection of hand tools decades later. These influences shaped his abilities as a woodworker, but his desire to create sound formed him into a Maker.

This morning I happened upon a group of folks preparing a large batch of oobleck for people to walk on and play with at World Maker Faire. It’s pretty neat how goopy and loose it can be with a soft touch and then solid on a fast impact.
