Students from eleven different schools, ranging from elementary through high school grades, visited New York Hall of Science on Thursday for Maker Faire Education Day.
At the conclusion of yesterday’s Hardware Innovation Workshop, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg once again declared the entire week “Maker Week.” A representative of the mayor’s office presented Dale Dougherty, Maker Media CEO; and Sherry Huss, Maker Media vice president, with a proclamation in recognition of Maker Faire and its impact on New York City’s maker movement. The Mayor presented a similar proclamation last year.
When Brooklyn-based artist and technologist Thomas Stevenson rolls in with his chromed, unsuspecting food cart, you can guarantee that a party will ensue in short order. Instead of treats, his cart, aptly titled the DiscoTransformer, is serving up fresh, hot beats.
SketchUp is partnering with WikiHouse and ShopBot to build a custom house that will serve as their Maker Faire New York booth. Enjoy some snaps from the process so far, and check out the progress as they scramble to assemble the house on site over the next two days!
MAKE’s editors are offering six different “Getting Started” presentations this weekend at World Maker Faire New York. Beginner sessions on 3D Printing, Arduino, Raspbserry Pi, BeagleBone, Breadboarding, and Choosing a Board are taught by MAKE editors and will run multiple times a day.
One of the exciting things about Maker Faire is seeing the technological progress year over year. Case in point, 3D-printers.
