As a graphic designer who works in publishing, it’s easy to forget that my profession often dovetails nicely with other creative pursuits. If you deal in imagery and functionality, your materials are endless. So it was nice to see this video with quilt maker Denyse Schmidt and be reminded that arts and crafts don’t need to be divided by a “vs.”

This Godzilla quilt by Edy Brady is exquisite. The fabric selection, the subtle embroidered outlines of buildings and other Godzilla-relevant objects (check out Mothra hovering over Mt. Fuji)… Ah! Andrea Zuill creates some beautiful applique and hand-quilted pieces that have stunning details and a great, folksy feel to them. She’s just shared a couple of tutorials for doing your own applique process for creating a quilt top or wall hanging. She’s got great tips on using fusible webbing sparingly and nice stitching instructions.
