I’m at the airport on my way to foo camp at O’Reilly and discovered something really neat- I have an EVDO card that I hacked up the drivers to work on a Powerbook 15″. I turned on my Airport card at the same time, turned on Internet sharing, checked off airport, turned on web sharing and now everyone with me can use my connect as a free Wifi hotspot, which is a better deal than the $10/day deal here. This likely isn’t news to old pros, but news to me. It’s a little like the stomp box in MAKE volume 03. This might also work with XP’s connection sharing, will try that later too. Link. Solar-powered Wi-Fi networks. Lumin’s first-generation product is the LightWave AP-1000 solar-powered access point, which comes in two models, single and dual. The Pearl Street deployment utilizes four dual units, each of which is located out of sight on a well-chosen rooftop, and features two hinged solar panels. Link.

This is a web-based interactive map of wardriving data. Wardrivers upload their findings, and we draw the data atop detailed street-level maps. This project was built using a variety of free or open source software packages. Be alert that you are anonymous. Thanks Drew! Link.

Awesome. WiGLE is an online database of Wireless Access Points (802.11A/B/G) that is contributed to by folks using Netstumbler, Kismet and other war driving tools. WiGLE has a web interface of its own as well as Java desktop client called JiGLE. Link.
