Step 1: Pull the chain saw toward you and turn it on its side with the sprocket guard facing up.
Step 2: Unplug the saw.
Step 3: Tie the extension cord tightly around your upper thigh to restrict blood flow, leaving several feet of loose cord.
Step 4: Use the wire frame from your hearing protection device to remove the sprocket guard screw, exposing the chain drive sprocket.
Step 5: Plug in the saw and use the sprocket to cut the branch which presses down on the stub. Cut it as close as possible to the main branch.
Step 6: Push the cut branch off of the stub.
Step 7: Keep the extension cord tight as you stand up, hobble into the house, and call for help.
