It’s that time of year again folks! Your and my favorite maker holiday is nearly here: Halloween! I’m certain many of you have already started fabricating your ingenious costumes, fantastic props and devilishly delectable edibles.
A homemade alarm system made from two “normally closed” audio jacks is the focus of our most recent Weekend Project, the Alarm Bag. The alarm system, built into an enclosure (above), can be installed into any bag (in our project, a messenger bag is used) or even modified to act as a door or window alarm. The 2-jack design means the alarm will activate whenever the second audio jack (the trigger) is removed.
Wow! Matthew Varas made a pulley-activated chomping Pacman costume, and detailed the build on Make: Projects. It’s exciting to see entries coming in to our Halloween Contest 2011!
Building robots is easy if you have the right parts. This Make: Project shows you how using readily available items from the Maker Shed. All you need is a 4WD platform, a motor shield, a PING))) sensor, and an Arduino Uno. Put everything together, load the code, and you’ll have a great robot platform to build from. Good job Nick!
Hobbyist electronics projects need robust, reliable power supplies for prototyping and testing. I learned how to build this circuit from the Basic Analog Circuits class at ITP taught by Eric Rosenthal, but took it several steps further in building a solid enclosure and integrating a voltage meter. Now it lives on my desk, ready to power most small projects I’m working on, ranging from 0 – 24 volts and up to two amps. Our favorite maker holiday, Halloween, is right around the corner, and Make: Projects community member Marc Brownlow shared his awesome Skull Truffles how-to with us just in time. In true maker spirit, just making the truffles wasn’t enough — he uses polymer clay to sculpt little skulls and then food-grade silicone to make the mold. […]
