Shake Hands with Francis at the Maker Faire Bay Area
Brian Matthews of Flapping Sprocket creates beautifully intricate machinery, wings, and other contraptions in his Los Angeles studio. For the second year running, he will be at the Maker Faire Bay Area as a mobile exhibit, roaming the Faire with his hand puppet Francis, a metal marvel finely articulated enough to shake your hand.

Crafter and engineer Fay Shaw, founder of bitwise E-textiles, is bringing both her charming light-up plush kits and her experience as a woman engineer and Maker to the Maker Faire Bay Area.
Robot Puppet Party at Maker Faire
The Hello World Program would like to invite you to a Robot Puppet Party at the Maker Faire Bay Area next month. Hello World has been running for about a year, building a library of video tutorials on a variety of open source tech topics, narrated by handmade puppets. Guido the Python teaches the Python programming language, of course, while the robot Unique ID discusses robotics, circuitry and the basics of object-oriented programming. Currently under construction is a new fox puppet who will be in charge of HTML tutorials.

Race Your Way to Maker Faire
Do you have a need for speed? At this year’s Maker Faire, there are two ways for you to test your vehicle building and racing chops. Both the Fun Bike Unicorn Club and the Power Racing Series challenge teams to build unique, DIY vehicles and bring them to Maker Faire for a series of friendly competitions.
Kinetic Creatures Plans to Go Big for Maker Faire Bay Area
Lucas Ainsworth and Alyssa Hamel of Kinetic Creatures are already hard at work on the project they have planned for their 2nd appearance at the Maker Faire Bay Area: An enormous, bike-powered, cardboard “Rory the Rhino.” Check out how they are learning to weld, sourcing new parts, and challenging themselves to go bigger for this year’s fair.
