Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth — a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement.
Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these people come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

Last year’s World Maker Faire New York marked the debut of the Nerdy Derby, “a no-rules miniature car building and racing competition inspired by the Cub Scouts’ Pinewood Derby.” This year, the derby is back with some fantastic improvements.
Queens University student Jonas Lobo is pushing the paper folding envelope with his giant dynamic interactive origami sculpture, currently on display in in Area A, indoors at the main hall at NYSCI.
Xraise Cornell is an outreach group that makes interactive devices that demonstrate unusual physics phenomena. Check out this montage video of some of the fun gadgets they brought to Maker Faire New York. My favorite: the microwave with neon bulbs inside that ionize and light up when hit with microwaves.
The Power Racing Series is one of the most dynamic events at Maker Faire, as speed-demon hackerspace members race around a track in hacked and modded toy cars. One of the PPPRS events is a “moxie” challenge where racers perform silly stunts for the crowd.

Firefly Newborn Phototherapy, a project by the non-profit Design That Matters, was awarded the first prize in the Pitch Your Prototype competition today at World Maker Faire New York.
