Maker Faire

Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth โ€” a family-friendly festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the maker movement.

Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these peopleย come to Maker Faire to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.

Maker Faire Bay Area Ready for Showtime

Maker Faire Bay Area Ready for Showtime

The production crew at MAKE has been preparing all week. Sets and stages have been built. Communications and power have been put in place. Finally, everything is ready to go. It’s set-up day. This morning, the gates opened for makers and sponsors to check in and set-up their exhibits. The grounds are filled with sounds of tools, forklifts, and the occasionally noise of Arc Attack performing a sound check. The last event of the day was the paella dinner for makers, the traditional Maker Faire eve feast/party. Tomorrow: It’s showtime!

Why Educators Love Maker Faire 2013

Teachers love Maker Faire because they see how much it means to engage their students as makers. For Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to salute educators who bring the Maker movement to kids in schools and in after-school programs. We believe making has the power to transform education and develop the potential of every child to create and innovate. Getting making into schools can be difficult so we’re particularly happy to applaud the efforts of pioneering educators who are leading the way. It’s important that these pioneers realize that they’re not alone.

With the recent updates to the development platform, we’re starting to see a rush of fun, and functional custom watchfaces for the Pebble, as well as web-based tools for generating them.

In the MAKE spirit, and out of the imperative to show my maker pride at Maker Faire Bay Area in 9 days, I went ahead and made a custom MAKE watchface. If you see me at Maker Faire and show me your Pebble with the Make watchface, I’ll show you the secret maker handshake.
