Our own Mark Frauenfelder discovered the work of Boulder, Colorado interventions-in-nature artist Mike Grab in the best possible way: He happened upon one of Mike’s sculptures, in the wild, soon after its completion. Simply put, Mike Grab balances rocks, one on top of another, in flowing water, with no glue or other means of support apart from gravity itself.

Conceived by Mitch Altman of Noisebridge as a way to draw awareness to the vibrant Bay Area maker community, and the awesome resources available to its makers, inventors, and educators, the “Invent” campaign hit the skylines of San Francisco and San Jose this week.

DJ Sures Is a roboticist living in Calgary, Alberta. He is the designer of the EZ-B Robot Controller, which converts toys into interactive robots. In MAKE Volume 27, DJ wrote an introduction to the EZ-B Robot Controller and explained how to use it to make a Ball Chasing Digger Robot.
