I am very excited to announce that the labs is officially moved into the mercantile block [pictured above] and is fully functional. We are going to be hosting our first ever Annual Labs Social, which will serve to be our grand opening and first public event in the new space.
It’s been just over a month since this year’s RI Mini Maker Faire, but only a couple weeks since we decided to do it all over again with another RI Mini Maker Faire at the BIF-6 conference in Providence, RI. The Fab Academy provides instruction and supervises investigation of mechanisms, applications, and implications of digital fabrication. The academy is a new distributed education platform built on the infrastructure of the international Fab Lab network and taught by MIT professor Neil Gershenfeld and a global roster of visiting faculty and local instructors.
A Better World by Design is a three-day internationally acclaimed conference in Providence, RI that connects students, professionals, and individuals from a variety of disciplines in order to build a global community of socially conscious and passionate innovators. Presenters share engaging stories, workshops teach creative skills, and discussions reframe perspectives. A Better World by Design is an immersive experience, one that deepens our understanding of the power of design, technology, and enterprise to reshape our communities and sustain our environment.
Mini Maker Faire RI is only a couple days away, and it looks like the weather’s going to cooperate with us in a big way. We’re holding the Faire in conjunction with Waterfire, and at latest count, we have 32 makers to show you a good time. We’ve got science makers, crafters, fabricators, artists, robots, electronics, vehicles, publications, housing, education, food and drink makers, sustainable tech, and more!
We’re doing another Mini Maker Faire here in RI, and wow, it’s happening soon. This year it will once again be embedded within a Waterfire, and we’ll be holding it at the Bank of America Skating Center, August 28, 2010, 3pm-11pm.
All builders, inventors, innovators, hackers, tinkerers, gadgeteers, designers, artists, fabricators, welders, craftspeople, fabric technologists, bricolaurs, engineers, scientists, garden wizards, and more: Come show off your creations at Maker Faire RI.
