DARPA, in collaboration with Boston Dynamics, has created a variety of fascinating robots in the past, including one that can outrun Usain Bolt and another that has a surprisingly human-like gait. Here’s a short clip of DARPA’s Pet-Proto robot accomplishing autonomous decision making and navigation through three obstacles.
Boxie the Robot Explores its Surroundings
Boxie is a semi-autonomous robot that roams through its surroundings until it finds a willing human participant to answer its questions and star in a movie it films. It was designed and built by Alexander Reben at MIT’s Media Lab.
Robot Tourist is a Land Surveying Blimp
Ezer Lichtenstein of ITP made an autonomous blimp called the Robot Tourist that can sense its surroundings and take photos of the landscape it flies over. This was accomplished using a Link Sprite camera, a microSD Arduino shield, and an Arduino Uno.
