Maker Camp: Day 7

Maker Camp: Day 7

Today’s Maker Camp is all about robots! One of last year’s most popular Maker Camp guests was RobotGrrl so we’ve brought her back to talk bots along and Super Awesome Sylvia, who just got back from demonstrating her WaterColorBot at the White House Science Fair. They’ll be showing off their latest robot projects. We’ll also show you how to build a robot of your own—a vibrobot.

Maker Camp Community Projects: Week 1

Maker Camp Community Projects: Week 1

After weeks of planning the first week of Maker Camp is behind us. Did you have fun? We sure did and there are five more weeks to go so stay tune for a lot more making. One of the cool things about Maker Camp this year is our community page on Google+. We didn’t have that during last year’s camp. Following the community page offers a real window into the vitality of the maker movement. Each day on Maker Camp we present one easy-to-build project  and it’s fun to see makers post their versions of the projects. But the community doesn’t stop there. The community page is buzzing with lots of other projects. I’ll be highlighting some of the builds that caught my eye at the end of each week. Take a look and if you’ve got a project of your own or one you say on the G+ community page, please post in the comments for all to see.

Maker Camp: Day 5

Maker Camp: Day 5

It’s field trip Friday here at Maker Camp and we’ve a truly great trip planned for our first field trip of Maker Camp 2013. We’ll be heading to San Francisco to visit with Oracle Team USA. Team Oracle makes some of the speediest sailboats in the world, and then races them in America’s Cup, the world’s premier sailing event. Oracle Team USA boats are seven-ton, wing-sail catamarans capable of speeds typically seen only on highways. At 43 knots boatspeed, the boats are capable of sailing their 72-foot length in a single second.

Maker Camp: Day 4

Maker Camp: Day 4

Today is Raspberry Pi day on Maker Camp. What’s Raspberry Pi? It’s a cheap but powerful little computer that you can use to power in any number of projects. Matt Richardson, MAKE contributing editor and co-author of Getting Started With Raspberry Pi, will be today’s special guest. He’ll offer a primer in the Pi and talk about a few of his favorite projects.

Maker Camp: Day 3

Maker Camp: Day 3

Maker Camp rolls out its third day projects and makers at 11am PST devoted to two-wheeled fun and bike hacks. The highlight of the live broadcast on Google+ will be an interview with Ismael Plasencia from The Crucible, the world’s coolest metal shop located in Oakland, Calif. Ismael will be showing off some cool projects and sparks may fly so wear your safety glasses.
