Gutenberg modified a screw press used for wine making in order to create his first printing press and apparently that DIY tradition is still alive and well in this image, which appears to be a printing press made from a modified milk crate
I am totally in awe of The Press, an amazing printing press creation by Oakland, CA, wood artist Shawn HibmaCronan. Made from steel, bamboo, oak, cork, and rope, Shawn built almost every aspect of The Press himself.
