RSS feeds on TVs

image16sm.jpgA few readers emailed me regarding this screenshot on the Make Flickr pool. It’s an image of the free NewsGator application on the Media Center PC 2005 to view RSS feeds on your TV, all using a remote control and a “10 foot” interface. Here are a couple more shots. If you have a MCE sign up for the free account through the TV interface using the remote and then log in on the PC side of things to add feeds. It even ticks the headlines across the bottom. I like to pop on BBC, keep it playing in the lower left and have my feeds creep along for maximum info-consumption. Oh, for the podcasters- if there’s an enclosure NewsGator will play it (but won’t download ahead of time yet). I’ll soon have MythTV set up and I’ll be trying out some other TV-RSS readers as well. On a side note, I have iPodder running on the MCE, it grabs videos from Blogdigger as well as podcasts, music- and these all show up in my video and audio list on the TV. On my wish list, I’d like to see a Flickr browser and/or uploader from my TV- I hear that’s in the works. For now, there’s a MCE Flickr pool to show off your set ups, if you got’em post’em.

Make this: SPOT Enabled MP3 Player…

Many of the products that come out are sometimes from the hackers out there on the edge doing things. We all made Wi-Fi hot spots years before it became common place and a biz. So from where I’m sitting, I think those of us out here in tinker-land might be able to propose some new products. I’m going to call these types of posts “Make this”. Here it goes…

Make out with FireFox

screenshot_0.jpgAs we build out the site, I’ll lift the hood on how we work and what tools are used. We’re running on my fav blogging publishing tool Moveable Type here at Makezine.com. I’ll eventually use Ecto for posting, but for now I am using Firefox on my Mac for most things. Soon, adding a lot of devices as well. Here are the FireFox extensions and some of the other applications installed on my system, figured it would be useful to someone out there or maybe there are things others can suggest….

Wireless Notebook mouse…

DSC04218c.jpgIt’s hard for me to do photo edits or design on the road with a trackpad so I’ve been looking for a small wireless optical 2 button + scroll mouse forever. This tiny mouse lasts for over 3 months and the wireless transmitter pops on to the back of the mouse for storage when you travel. I plugged it in to my Apple Cinema Display, Powerbook, PC laptops and it just worked, $34. I took some pictures here they are…
