Awhile back we posted about the beer can bracelets– and here are some beer can rings. These unisex rings are made of sterling silver and real beer or soda cans (personally emptied by Dana Roth or a close friend). The aluminum is secured to the jewelry with sterling rivets and protected from damage by overhanging ledges. 3/8″ wide. Link.

Here’s a bit of Tamagotchi hacking. There are a few versions of these virtual pets and I found some on sale at the local Mega-Mart. They can communicate via IR, so I figured it might be time to document how they chat with each other and explore the possibility of making a “virtual” virtual pet to live on my cell phone or other devices, including an iPod (imagine having to feed your iPod music or it dies)… Anyway, it could be a neat project for kids to see how these little fellas work, there are millions of them. There’s a somewhat little know and often-unused function of iPod called “Notes” which can actually be quite handy for storing and reading text, creating a locked “kiosk mode”, quizzes, games as well a full-length ebooks. The Notes reader is located in Menu > Extras > Notes. Only the more recent 3G and 4G iPods, including the iPod photo and iPod mini both have the iPod Notes application. Lots of times I’ll start a project and get a little sidetracked. Here’s a good example. I’m working on a write up of a high powered green laser, but I wanted to test out which colors of balloons would pop with the laser, I was pretty sure that the red ones would (and did) but the pink ones seem to pop sometimes, and the purples ones were also popable. Along with the laser there are some robot projects (Modding an old Nintendo bot) so anyway, here is a video and some of the pictures of my experiment(s) in progress…
